SAFA ENERGY PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • The Somali Electricity Access Initiative (SEAP) is a project being supported by the World Bank to encourage the installation of solar power systems in private residences and to conduct research into solar-powered mini-grids.
  • SEAP is a result-based financing project (solar RBF) that offers financial incentives to RBF recipients to provide scaled-up flexible and affordable financing schemes for lighting Global approved solar multi-light systems.
  • The service area is given throughout south-southwest Somalia. The target group includes 5,696 people with new or enhanced electricity services, 2,835 women, and 1076 houses with new standalone solar systems.
  • Safa Energy has been able to increase the number of solar-powered items it sells by one hundred percent because of the innovative marketing strategies it has used. The impact of solar off-grid products on consumers has been massive in communities in the southwest state of Somalia.
  • The Grievance Resolution Mechanism (GRM) is a system for resolving complaints between companies, their employees, and customers. It is essential to maintain constructive employee and customer relations to support and enable the proper functioning of Solar Service Providers.
  • SAFA Energy Baidoa discovered that most individuals do not have a good understanding of how to utilize or operate the various pieces of equipment, which caused them to feel even more pressure to purchase pricey equipment.
  • The off-grid section of investment and financing should move forward without investing in products that companies buy directly from them.
  • Everyone in the community should have full access to services, and it doesn’t take much money to grow this service because some people in the community are now better educated and need it.

  • Safa Energy purchased solar products, including a solar lantern, a mobile light, and a charger, as well as a solar torch with reading light. These products originally cost $37,175.00 and generated $152,765.00 in profit.

  • SAFA Energy has also developed the following policies to complement the GBV Manual and Action Plan: Also released are SAFA Energy’s Occupational Health and Safety Manual and Grievance Redress Mechanism.
